Tuesday June 12, 2001, 68 miles (109 km) - Total so far: 133 miles (214 km) Thunderstorms last night, high winds and thunder woke me up but I went back to sleep quickly. On road at 6:00 a.m. Followed Highway 30, extremely busy 4-lane, I rode alongside in the grass for probably 2 miles. 9:00 a.m. located the Old Plank Trail approximately 1 mile west of the trailhead. Flat-tire, the sun came out while I fixed it. Followed trail west to Joliet. 12:00 noon, made the I & M canal trailhead along U.S. hwy. 6, getting Hot!
